In Ontario, psychotherapy is a regulated practice, meaning it is provided by trained and licensed professionals.
At its core, psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a therapist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through this process, you can begin to make sense of patterns, navigate challenges, and build healthier ways of coping and relating to yourself.
Understanding the different types of mental health professionals can help you find the right support for your needs.
A free consultation offers a chance to speak with a therapist, ask any questions you may have, and see if it feels like a good fit for you. There’s no obligation to move forward afterward.
A free consultation is a 5-20 minute, no-pressure conversation where you can connect with one of us, ask questions, and get a sense of whether it feels like the right fit. This can be done by phone or video—whatever feels most comfortable for you.
There’s no “right” way to prepare. You’re welcome to come as you are.
If it helps, you might take a moment to reflect on what’s been bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, or any questions you’d like to ask. The consultation is simply a space to get a feel for the therapist and explore whether it feels like a good fit.
During your first session, we’ll begin by going over what therapy can look like and review important details such as confidentiality and fees. From there, we’ll start getting to know you—exploring what’s been bringing you in and what you’ve been experiencing.
This session is mostly about understanding your concerns so we can begin to shape a plan that feels right for you. By the end, we’ll work together to identify a few initial goals to guide our work moving forward.
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Together, we’ll find a pace that feels right for you based on your needs, goals, and what feels manageable in your life.
Some clients prefer to meet regularly, while others schedule sessions as needed. While many people begin to notice meaningful progress within 6–12 sessions, this can look different for everyone.
We recognize that for some, faith may be connected to painful or traumatic experiences. In these cases, bringing Islam into therapy may not feel safe or appropriate. Any integration of faith is always guided by your comfort, your consent, and thoughtful clinical judgment.
You’re always free to stop therapy at any time. If at any point it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s completely okay.
If it’s helpful, we can also support you in finding another therapist who may be a better match for your needs.
Coverage for therapy depends on your individual insurance plan. Many extended health benefit plans may cover sessions in part or in full, so we recommend checking directly with your provider for details.
While we don’t offer direct billing, you will receive a receipt after each session that you can submit for reimbursement.
Please note that services provided in private practice are not covered by OHIP.

We do not want finances to be an obstacle in seeking help. We both offer a limited number of sliding scale spots to help make therapy more accessible. These are offered on a case-by-case basis and can be discussed during the free consult call.
